09/24/2005: "Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma"

Hey there, swingin' bachelors. On Friday afternoon I formed a new band
called Mike Hunt's Honorable Discharge. On Friday Night we recorded
a cover of Blair's mega(s)hit "Good Girl" (my idea). On Saturday morning,
just as the sun was rising and we were edging towards sobriety, the band
broke up (not my idea).

I'd like to thank everybody else who played on this song but they
specifically asked not to be named, so I'll just thank EW who for loaning
me Stiv Bator's old mic ("It's the worst mic in my collection; it'll be
perfect for this song") and AC who suggested that I should sing like a
"junkie-queen". Fans of Burn Witch Burn will recognize the voice of the
young lady on backing vocals.

Anyway, you now have something to listen to while you wait for me to
finish Part VII of the God series. Here's the one & only recording of
Mike Hunt's Honorable Discharge playing "Good Girl".

Oh, if ya' scroll down a couple of posts you can find the words.

Thanks for giving me something to hum all night at work...the tune won't leave my head.
(Also, It sounded like the same mic that was used for Spit Sink...lol)

Here is Blair's version of "Good Girl" for you to compare and contrast. I would have to say I like Rodney's version better, although I feel that it is lacking the obligatory guitar solos that give Blair's version a certain je ne sais quoi.

I actually liked Blair's version better - it was a great parody of itself

OK... after listening to the original, I think that Blair needs a good grudge fuck.

In fact (quidem), my version originally included a lengthy guitar solo which was cut for obvious reasons (like the fact that I was playing the solo). It’s a pretty smooth edit (if I do say so myself) but if you listen carefully to the “mass of verses” section you can detect the splice. I wanted to overdub it with a “noise solo” but dropped that idea as well.

Had I heard Blair’s version first I’m certain that I would’ve had the drummer stick closely to the beat of the original, which I actually like (the beat that is). And what’s with this 4:10 length? Mine was over in half that time (including 11 seconds of Blair’s Magnum Opus “Obey”.

amazingly Rodney, even trying to make your vocals sound as horrible as you could, Blair's are much, much worse.

it's too bad MHOD didn't get a chance to cover "Let the Eagle Soar"....

i love the 1/4th miLkman version of good girl even more, it should be released.

now knowing the original songs tempo, would it be done different by this band who already broke up?
she's 16, its like a crystal ship show

Rodney, the reason your version is so much shorter is because Blair's version has three fucking guitar solos! That must be some kind of record. One was bad enough, but three? I guess when you get some fuckshit from church to play guitar on your album without paying him, you gotta throw him some kind of a bone. Hey, Blair, whatever happened to good old-fashioned sexual favors, huh? You could've just given him a blow job.

OMG...the original was like stepping into a morality play afternoon TV faux-rock video from 1982. I can almost see the pink chiffon Madonna-wanna-be hair bows bobbing around...
